Kallen Shaw, Ph.D.
Post-Doctoral Associate
Dr. Shaw is a Post-Doctoral Associate serving as Project Coordinator for an IES-funded grant, Initial Efficacy Trial of Florida Embedded Practices and Intervention with Caregivers (FL-EPIC; R324A210081). This is a randomized controlled trial examining the effects of the FL-EPIC intervention on provider, caregiver, and child outcomes. The trial will include 108 early intervention providers and 540 caregiver/child dyads who are participating in Early Steps (Part C) programs across Florida. Results of this project will primarily provide insights into the efficacy of the FL-EPIC intervention for infants and toddlers with disabilities, and their families.
Dr. Shaw completed her doctoral program at the Anita Zucker Center for Excellence in Early Childood Studies, under the mentorship of Dr. Patricia Snyder. Dr. Shaw’s research interests lie at the intersections of maternal/child health, early intervention, and family supports. She is focused on supporting the population of children aged birth to 3 who have or are at-risk for disabilities, and their families. Primarily, she focuses her work within implementation science and research to support the translation of evidence-based interventions from research into practice and policy. During her program, she had the opportunity to pursue the Clinical/Translational Science concentration to further support her transdisciplinary research interests. She was the first graduate student from the College of Education to earn this concentration, which opened the door for all future education graduate students to also have the opportunity to pursue this concentration.
As a doctoral student, Dr. Shaw supported various dissemination and implementation activities for the FL-EPIC Early Steps Professional Development (ESPD) project. She created training and implementation materials, supported the development of statewide foundational trainings for early intervention providers, and assisted in launching the Tools for Early Steps Teams (TEST) Toolkit website. Prior to her doctoral program, Dr. Shaw gained research experience in various public health initiatives and epidemiological data analysis.
